Airport Applications
APMs are mainly installed at airports to provide connections between terminals, or to allow for interconnection with another mode of transport or car park. This is one of the most demanding environments, as passengers need to travel quickly to catch their flight and avoid delays. With its high availability, an APM guarantees complete safety and peace of mind for its passengers.
Urban Applications
In rapidly expanding towns and cities, getting to the centre is becoming increasingly complicated and the traffic more congested, so APMs are used provide a connection to the park-and-ride facilities outside the city.
They can also connect different levels or areas of the town, as is the case in Serfaus, where the APM serves 4 stations, going from a car park, passing through the centre, to a gondola lift.
Private and Industrial Applications
An APM can be installed on campuses, industrial complexes, at hotels, medical complexes, etc. to provide a fast connection between different buildings. This has notably been the case at the San Raffaele Hospital in Italy and the Huntsville Hospital in the United States.

configurationssingle lane with bypass
With the “single lane with bypass” configuration, the two carriers run on a single track and cross at a passing loop. The infrastructure is lighter for a large capacity with reversible operation
single lane
With the “single lane” configuration, the funicular railway works reversibly on one track.
dual lane
Finally, with the “dual lane” configuration, each carrier moves back and forth independently on its track. This is the funicular railway solution to be adopted for transport with a very high number of visitors. This configuration also allows redundancy in the event of a track failure or maintenance.
