PROXIMITY AND CONFIDENCE ON THE CARIBBEAN’S 1ST URBAN TELEPHERIC

In 2018, with the construction of the first urban cable car in the Caribbean, the story of Poma RD begins in the Dominican Republic. Over 5 km long, with its 36 towers and 195 cabins, the Santo Domingo cable car will quickly meet the needs of a local population suffering from saturated road traffic and high transport costs.

The adventure continues in 2022 with the start-up of a second 4.2 km line in the western zone of the city of Los Alcarrizos, followed by a third line of almost 4 km in the country’s second largest city in 2023, Santiago de los Caballeros, for which Poma RD has been entrusted with the operation and maintenance of the systems.

With 3 lines in operation in the Dominican Republic in less than 6 years, and a fourth line due to start work in 2025, the Dominican government has placed its trust in Poma as a reliable and competent partner in its development of reliable, eco-responsible urban transport solutions.

From a rather basic structure at the outset, Poma RD’s workforce has gradually grown to include more than 190 employees of different nationalities and with a wide range of profiles.

Operation of urban cable transport systems

POMA RD’s main mission is to operate and maintain all urban cable transport systems in the Dominican Republic. Thanks to our 10-year O&M contracts, which offer excellent long-term visibility, and to our customers’ high standards, we have been able to make more effective and lasting commitments to training, stock management, digital media and processes.

Optimization and safety in maintenance

As the safety of passengers, staff and equipment is at the heart of our business, POMA RD brings its expertise to all aspects of maintenance, whether predictive, preventive or corrective, with a team of experts capable of meeting the requirements of the latest-generation aircraft.

Line 2 is the fastest in the world , with a speed of 7m/s and a throughput of 4,500 people/hour. The climatic conditions and the high number of operating hours make POMA RD an important REX generator for the entire Poma Group.

Long-term O&M contracts have prompted POMA to integrate major inspection operations into its general maintenance plan, enabling us to develop a whole process, structure and team of experts around this activity.
