POMA Egypt
POMA Egypt, POMA’s customer service team in Egypt
POMA’s history in Egypt began in 2000 with the construction of the APM connecting the two terminals at Cairo Airport. The installation was the first to be operated by a local POMA team, with an availability rate of 99.75% right from the first few weeks of operation. Building on this success, and in order to structure POMA’s presence in the country, POMA Egypt was created in 2012.
Across the country, POMA Egypt manages POMA ropeway transport systems – both land and aerial – as well as their related services, relying internally on a range of varied skills including management and execution of maintenance operations, training, and commercial representation.
Backed by this hub of skills based in North Africa, POMA EGYPT supports the development of POMA in the region. Thanks to its technical experience in complex environments and its knowledge of the region, ropeway transport is developing in Africa as well as in the Middle East.
POMA Egypt
Operations and maintenance
Given POMA Egypt's primary area of expertise, the subsidiary initially focused on its activity as an operator, under an exclusive contract with Cairo Airport. The APM under operation now has an availability rate of 99.9%, supported by structured preventive maintenance, a demanding quality system comprising procedures, tests and continuous improvement, led by an expert team.
POMA Egypt has become a benchmark throughout the Group, and has laid the foundation for a benchmark standard for the Operation and Maintenance of installations worldwide.
Training and skills transfer centre
Being able to count on staff who are perfectly proficient in ropeway transport systems is essential to achieving the required level of safety and availability. For this purpose, POMA has been training operating and maintenance teams, even the most inexperienced in the field, for many years.
As experts, POMA Egypt employees are qualified to help upgrade the skills of operating teams. In addition to a proven training method for a variety of audiences, POMA Egypt trainers recommend best operating and maintenance practices, share their feedback and help improve the overall level of customer knowledge. The POMA Egypt training team are key players in the POMA Group's trainer network, which operates around the world.
POMA's commercial roots in Egypt
Africa and the Middle East are experiencing strong demographic growth and are facing the mobility challenges of tomorrow's cities. POMA Egypt uses its experience to support transportation projects and promote the development of more sustainable transport solutions in the region.

Rope Monitoring technology
To optimise maintenance operations, POMA Egypt has installed a cable monitoring system developed by our partner HALEC, which helps to monitor the condition of cables throughout the life cycle of the equipment. With full knowledge of all the operating challenges of a cable (including downtime, costs, transport, etc.), the information collected is capitalised and used for the continuous improvement of the systems.
Vibration monitoring
POMA Egypt uses a vibration monitoring solution on the Cairo APM which is essential for monitoring the operation of the APM’s critical components. The solution, with its proven benefits for the system, has been deployed on many other sites of the POMA Group.
Dedicated computer network
The Galala tourist gondola lift was the first site to be equipped with a complete computer network between its two stations, allowing the collection of operating data and secure remote access to video surveillance and fault diagnosis as well as to the ticket office. A POMA innovation!
